our history

In 1985  students, faculty & staff members of Austin Peay State University and a group of concerned citizens sponsored by Urban Ministries joined forces to launch a Crisis Intervention Center. It was charted by the state in 1985.

Crisis 211 took its first call on March 19, 1987 and was approved for funding through the United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region

In 1989 Dr. Ed Atkinson due to his never-ending belief that the 931-552-INFO (4636) should be the community information hotline for Crisis 211 was established.

1989 to present: Crisis 211  works with other agencies, civic groups, individuals, and churches to help those in need during the holidays with Christmas food baskets and gifts for the children.

Over the last 34 years we have collected school supplies, winter coats, and household items for those in need. The  Crisis@Christmas program assisted over 3,500 children with gifts for Christmas. We partnered with the First Presbyterian Church to provide names of families who needed holiday food baskets.

We partnered with United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region during the Pandemic to assist those who needed rent and utility assistance. We texted and emailed applications to those who called needing help.

We continue to update the resources that our community may need to help them during a financial crisis or any emotional crisis and/or are feeling suicidal.
